New Offer

OK, guess what? I've just landed myself a new job. And it all happened in the lightning speed in the past weekend yet I have no time to update you guys. Anyway, after everything is finally settled down, now it's story time.

Afterall I've been looking for a new job since December. It appears to be I get no response from any of the companies that I've sent my resume to. Well, what to do? I could only keep on buying The Straits Times every saturday and send the resumes week after week. Last Monday I got a call inviting me to go for an interview on Friday. Of course I was excited after finding out the company is exactly the type of company that I want to go, an IT firm delivering business solutions. So I just have to apply a half day leave on Friday afternoon to attend the interview. The embarrassing part was that some of my colleagues asked me bluntly whether I was going for an interview when I was about to take off from the office. Of course, I said no despite the fact was the other way round.

The interview was not a smooth one, as I wasn't able to answer most of the technical question about Java thrown by the interviewer. Inspite that, I was being asked to see the Manager, then the Director. And they offered me on the spot. And they asked me to start ASAP apart from the fact that I need to serve 1 month notice to my current employer. Luckily they are considerable and gave me an offer to letter which I must start on or before 1 March.

Now challenges come. Though I like the job itself, the company and the environment just doesn't fit. On that day and the next when I went for interview and to collect my offer letter, I couldn't see a single chinese in that company!!!! All I can see are INDIANS, INDIANS and INDIANS. The only 3 chinese that I bumped into were: an HR, and two cleaners!!!

Well, I am not a racist. Just that I've always heard so much negative comments about working with or working for indians, it does bother me. I keep on telling myself to take it as a challenge and an opportunity mix with another race and working with people from different cultures. This does make me excited as I never had the chance in the past 23 years. Being chinese educated for 12 years and mixing with mostly chinese in my 4 year of tertiary studies, I am really excited with this idea. Only hope that I can really cope with the environment and the people without screwing myself.

Another "interesting" matter was, I just got my bonus on last Saturday, and I tender my resignation on the following Monday. Felt a bit guilty for behaving that way. But I just got no choice. Sorry to Avi-Tech.

I also work with ppl from different cultural background, no big deal, hahaha. This is esp true in the mine, out of the 700+ ppl there, I think there are less than 10 asians...
