I've been told by my colleague about the subsidize by Singapore government based National Infocomm Competency Center for IT Professional so that they can take up courses and certification. I never gave a damn to it. I still have around more than $15k to pay for the tuition fees loan, I thought.
I just didn't expect that the depression that I got from my job had led me to the PACE2005, an exhibition organized by the NICC and out of nowhere I had the urge to go on with studies. Instead of taking up post graduate studies, I prefer to take up short term courses like getting a Microsoft Cerfified Professional or Sun Certified Java Programmer. Of course financial has always been a point to consider. If I am successful to get the subsidization from NICC, I need to pay only 50% of the course and examination fees. And that's a lot of the amount!!
Nevertheless, why Microsoft??? To be very frank, I don't know. For the past 1 year, I've been doing Java and it would be very "reasonable" for me to take up Sun Certification instead. Well, I guess that's the very least reason. I've been working on Java in my job, what the hell do I need to pay to attend courses when I can actually learn it on job or otherwise, should have my company pay for me to get the certification?? I am doing a total self-funding for the course, and I certainly would like it to be something which I don't have the chance to learn, be it my own or on job.
Well, still why Microsoft??? I don't know. J2EE and .Net are just the different extreme, will I be switching to .Net in the future? Well, who knows?
All in all, I just want to keep myself busy with something. I want to keep myself occupied, to keep myself continue on learning more and more.

There's a lot of companies using .NET technology to develop their software, probably more than J2EE. So don't worry, your money will be well invested. Proud of you to have the initiative to improve yourself. Good on you mate!
Learn as much as you can when you are young. When you are getting older, you don't have energy to study anymore, especially when you are married and have kids.
There's always no harm trying. The progress of learning is far more important than the final result.
